Solid, stable fatty
I bought this ski based on reviews without ever trying it and I am well pleased. It has a very stable feel that cuts through the crud and yet is very responsive on softer snow. It also holds a firm edge on ice--such as the early season Snowbasin icemaking groomers. I would recommend this ski to experts who can push a ski at high speeds because that's when the 88 really shines. Its only downside might be that it is too damp--if you like a snappy, lively ski for shorter turns and the occasional mogul run you may want to downsize. But if you are a big mountain skier that wants a rock solid, stable ski to plow through the crud yet still handle the deep powder days, the 88 rocks. This ski does a lot of things well and its construction seems bulletproof. Finally, the graphics look so much better in person--the colors are more muted than in any of the photos and it has a sharp-looking metallic flake paint (I know looks don't matter but in case you're interested--there you go).

I bought these based on reviews and friend recommendations at the end of last season and finally got to ski them yesterday. Everyone said they are the sickest skis ever and they pretty much lived up to it. Super stable on hardpack and ridiculously easy to ski in the soft stuff. Had about a foot of classic cascade crud yesterday and had no problems tearing through it. I remember struggling to keep up with friends on wide skis last year and yesterday my buddy struggled to keep up with me. If you like to ski soft snow that's not always nice light powder then these really are the best out there for an all-mountain ski. Easy to turn, nice float & strong and stable on hardpack too. Ski them hard and fast for best time! And they do look better in person. I didn't want a bright red ski but bought them anyway - they are much darker, not so red, and look great.


Karma of a Monster Outlaw
I've compared this Monster extensively against the similarly shaped/spec'd Volkl Karma and K2 Apache Outlaw under diverse conditions. It fits neatly between them in power, being stronger, less damp and more responsive than the Outlaw, but not as gutsy or stiff as the Karma. If you like total control and energy (and I do on most days) the Karma is the best all-mountain ripper I've found, eating up groomers to crud to pow and back. The Monster is not soft and is just about as versatile (although weaker on hardpack), but it won't wear you out as quickly as the Karma, and is a good choice for those wanting a more relaxed ride, more tip and tail flex, and a wider shovel, while retaining good responsiveness (where it beats the Outlaw hands down).
