Great in Extreme Conditions, but Poorly Sized
I just took these glasses with me to Mount Olympus in Washington state, and despite the incredibly intense sun on the glacier, these glasses screened most of the light. However, when we returned to the base of the mountain, I found that the glasses were much too dark for everyday use. In addition, the glasses were too big for my face and kept sliding down, and the retainer strap that accompanied them often fell off. I have a pretty small face though, and am a female, so I would assume that a male would have no problem in that area. Overall, these are good glasses for extremely sunny conditions, but were not as versatile and as sleek as I had expected.


Julbo Advance AltiChromic X4.
The Julbo advance -altichromic X4; Very good optics ( in Texas Sun 102-105F) Displays no edge flare. Very smooth filtration; it sits comfortably during outdoors events. However, after 3 days of wearing, one of the nose grip soft-rubber came off the holds, making it wobble and slide from brim of the nose. Can't put it back in place. May need to return it! Also when you perspire, the nose grip does not hold the glass tight. Needs to be slightly beveled or rough to add friction to stay on when it’s wet. The frame is very snuggly fitting around the temple and face contour giving good upward/downward mobility of the head movement. The side rubber shades are hard to slip on/off. Wish this lens had the Polarized option!


Would be perfect if fit were better
I love these glasses in all types of conditions: skiing, climbing, driving Teton Pass. And the lenses are much more scratch-resistant after a couple of years, when I would have gone thru at least 2 pair of Smiths. The clarity is amazing in a variety of conditions, thanks to the variable protection from Category 2 to 4. I am hoping I can find this same pair in a size designed more for a woman's face.


So far so good
I bought the Advance with glacier travel/snow/ice in mind. It's great for regular sunny days. So far, I haven't really been out in very bright conditions. I couldn't really tell if the alti-chromic function ever kicked-in (no visible darkening). That probably requires more brightness. I was a little disappointed with the finish of the actual frame. Given that one is paying almost $100, I would've expected a more high-quality finish.


Glacier glasses in Iraq
I work as an independent contractor in Iraq. Although I live and work without any solar reflection from the surface of glaciers and mountain peaks the desert sun is no less bright and unruly upon my light-sensitive eyes. The Julbo Advance Sunglasses serve their purpose so well I’ve just purchased my second pair, as with the living and working conditions here in Iraq it can be difficult to preserve such finer things. These are by far the best pair of non-polarized sunglasses I have worn to date. Moreover, the service at BackCountry.com is competitive at least as mail received by me (just out side of Baghdad) normally takes 2-5 weeks.
