Use it as a 450cu in fanny pack when you head out for a day of sightseeing. Expand the lid later in the day and convert the Cardinal into an 1150cu in daypack when your souvenir collection becomes too much for the fanny pack to bear. Throw your sunglasses in the fleece-lined optics pocket to keep them from getting scratched up and don't forget to fill up the Cardinal's included water bottles before you head out to stay hydrated.

Convenience of a fanny pack, capacity of a daypack
Fanny packs are user friendly; by pulling them around into "belly pack" position, you can access the contents while still wearing the pack. But most of them lack the capacity to store those extra layers you want to shed as the day warms up. Not this one; in daypack mode it will swallow up a fleece jacket and vest with room to spare. And it has pouches for water bottles. Light but well made. No complaints.
