The Marmot Evolution Long Sleeve Half Zip is made with Gore WindStopper N2S. N2S stands for Next 2 Skin, so you can guess where this piece should be worn—yep, as a base layer next to your skin. The Evolution wicks moisture with astonishing efficiency, pushing sweaty vapor away from your body and out the fabric face. You don't have to wear the Evolution directly against your skin, but its moisture wicking properties operate best if you do. That's because the greater the temperature/humidity differential between the interior of the shirt and the air outside, the quicker the moisture moves out of the shirt. Unlike other baselayers that can eventually become saturated the more you exert yourself, the Evolution actually works harder as you do. How's that for high tech? Gore WindStopper N2S blocks 100% of the wind and resists precipitation while retaining a level of breathability far beyond that of WindStopper Classic. marmot evolution gear tested in high arctic
My name is David and I recently purchased the Marmot Half Zip Evolution long sleeve shirt from backcountry. Never have I bought a product and gotten so much out of it. I went to the high Canadian arctic to a national park called Auyuiittu. I hiked through ancient glaciers and fjords for over eight days and the Marmot shirt was on me 24/7. It was a perfect mid layer, or even base layer when the sun was out and the wind finally stopped. It is definitely worth the money. I am going to buy stock in marmot. Completely water proof, highly breathable, and more comfortable then gods own robes. If it works 150km north of the Arctic Circle, and delivers these kinds of results, then you know it’s good.

This is a great shirt. You can wear it as a base layer or over a base layer. It's extremely breathable and does a great job of blocking wind. I was able to keep warm with this and a base layer at 10,000ft while hiking in the Sierras. Other hikers with more and thicker layers were having trouble keeping warm. This is an absolutely fantastic product.

Great construction allowing for a wide range of movement. My only complaint is the sizing is a little on the small size, although it is meant a base layer. If you are planning to use it as shell consider a size up.


Great shirt, low durability
This shirt worked like a charm during a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim-to-rim excursion. The shirt closes easily and provides a little extra warmth in low temp conditions. The stretch panels allow an excellent range of motion. Now for the bad part. I noticed some fraying on the seams connecting the 2 different fabric types. After 2 washings the seams had multiple small holes thought their length. If I spend this much on a shirt, I'd like that shirt to last more than a couple washes.


Excellent lightweight wind protection and mid-layer
I tried the Mountain Hardwear version of the WindStopper top a few years ago and nearly broiled to death. This new Marmot version has it figured out. A lighter version of the N2S WindStopper and venting panels in the armpits make this piece very functional as a wind and mid-layer. I wear mine with some silk weight underneath to improve the feel and wicking power. I love it for Nordic skiing and wear it under a soft shell or insulating piece for going downhill. Recommended.
