Metolius Cheap Bastard Crash Pad
Brand : MetoliusItem : MET0175
With 4.5in of foam providing a soft catch and a price tag that won't cost you half a month's rent, the Metolius Cheap Bastard Crash Pad is perfect for boulderers who'd rather spend their time on the rocks than working to pay for gear. Metolius' trademark diagonal hinge folds flat and eliminates the dead spot found in square-hinged pads. Using an engineered foam set up, this pad stacks closed-cell foam on top of open-cell foam to disperse the force of a fall throughout the pad, creating a cushy catch for big falls. By getting rid of unneeded bells and whistles, like external pockets and fancy patterns, Metolius was able slash the price of this pad. Thicker, cheaper and just as large as the Fat Bastard, the Cheap Bastard gives you the protection you need to step up to another highball and leaves you money to drive to the boulders.

Metolius Cheap Bastard Crash Pad
Excellent pad
I got this pad a month ago and have been putting it to serious use, and I'm very pleased! It's thick enough to take a high fall, but not so cushy that you sink in too much and risk rolling an ankle. The waist strap is really nice because your pad doesn't slide around when you're walking. I've used it as a mattress too and it's comfy, I would advise flipping it over to sleep on since the softer foam is on the bottom. So I would definitely recommend this pad, and happy climbing to all!
eternal boulder
The pad was a little stiff when I first got it but broke in easily and nicely. This is my first crash pad, and a friend had the older Metolius so that was part of my influence in buying this one. The Metolius Cheap Bastard is by far the best deal for ease of use and foam quality and quantity. I haven't had a problem with the seam. The closure keeps it together no problem, even folded in half between boulders, the landing is just fine.
Saves your bum and it makes a good chair
Took this pad with us for a weekend in Southern Illinois. Couldn't be happier. It's a little stiff for starters. So much at first you wonder if it would hurt to land on. However, after people walk on it, jump it, and fall on it, etc it starts to loosen up. I'm very pleased.
Great
Great price, descent pad, needs a little breaking in before its comfortable to fall on.
Great
Yeah, I really like it. Especially after doing a 15-foot fall without it... thankfully I was around to order it. It has enough give, so that you don't feel like you're crashing on concrete, but it's also tough to handle anything that you throw at it.
