Patagonia Stretch Element Pant - Men's
Brand : PatagoniaItem : PAT0358
The Patagonia Stretch Element pant is the only pair of drawers you'll want to wear this winter. These techy softshells offer the highest level of backcountry functionality. For starters, they're super light, thanks to skinny seam tape and minuscule seam allowances. This construction also makes the Stretch Element easily packable and durably waterproof. The suspenders are removable and the full side zips form a drop seat. The reinforced seat and knees will prolong the life of your pants and keep you protected while sitting or kneeling in the snow—like when you're studying the snowpack. Because they're softshell, the Stretch Element lives up to its name, moving with you easily when kick-turning through a switchback or dropping a knee on the way down.

Patagonia Stretch Element Pant - Men's
Solid pants and long enough for 6ft 2in guys.
I’m 6ft 2in and these work well for my height. I bet these would work for guys up to 6ft 4in. I’ve had these for a year now and have used them in rain, snow, extreme cold, and combinations of any or all during various activities. They do actually stretch with extreme movement very nicely. I can easily fit a pair of heavy weight fleece liner pants on underneath for extreme cold temps, and I can comfortably wear the stretch elements alone during fair weather rain storms. For rainy weather I roll the attached inner gaiters up a few inches which allow the pant legs to hang freely around my boots. For deep snow I attach 2/8th-inch thick nylon string (not included) to the loops on the bottom of the gaiters then secure the gaiters to the soles of my boots and close the fasteners around the base of the boot. This works well with no restricted movement and keeps the snow out very effectively.
Patagonia Function and Quality
Just finished testing out these pants with four days of cross country ski touring and two days of downhill tele skiing. Great trim fit for slender bodies, but with plenty of movement and additional stretch if needed. Gaiters fit fine over burly telemark boots and stayed put even with deep turns. For cross country touring they still felt light and not too hot. I added shock cord loops to the bottom of the gaiters and hooked them over the heels of my cross country boots, snow free ankles even in deep powder. The waterproof zippers are finicky and bind up a little. If any tension is on the material, the zippers do not perform well. I think the engineering of these zippers has some room to improve. Otherwise, great product. If you fall between sizes, order up!
Stretch Element Sizing
I returned the first pair of these pants because I ordered too small. I mostly wear a 33 waist across many brands but also wear 32's. I ended up needing the 34's in this pant. They still fit very trim, but have room to tuck a base layer. The fly/bomb-bay zipper operates much better when it has a little slack as well. My advice for odd size waists: order up!
