Patagonia gave it a U-shaped top zipper for easy access and a top pocket to hold smaller items like your plane tickets. They also gave it two end handles because carrying a massive duffel gets a lot easier with help.

an essential and versatile piece to carry quite a bit of gear and travel. this bag also a handsome piece that you may carry with you into the lobby of any fancy hotel. the zippers and the "burrito" style opening, the straps all smartly designed and built to withstand decades of use. (the only reason i returned it is because i needed a larger bag to carry all my Patagonia gear--their small black hole bag was the option).
