Salomon XA Pro 3D XCR Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Workhorse!
What can I say? If you're passionate about trail running, this is the workhorse of the bunch! Absolutely excellent. I was a little worried at first, the arch seemed a bit high and stiff, but after a few miles it molded to fit perfectly. The lacing system couldn’t be easier. When your shoes are covered in mud, it's nice just to pull and voila, shoe tied, shoe untied. The little pocket to keep the lace is ingenious! Traction is like wearing a knobby tire on your feet. The Gore-Tex XCR component is fantastic, and the toe box keeps those roots and rocks at bay. But hey Salomon, how about a gaiter that comes with the shoe? Ahhh, now that would be great!

XA Pro 3D XCR
These shoes are very comfy. The strap system is very secure and provides nice, even tension. I fear the thin wire will break, but Salomon seems to have a great warranty program. Excellent traction, especially on rocks and hard pack terrain. I had a lot of fun breaking them in during morning trail runs during a long weekend in Moab. Kind of an odd running shoe - support in the back, but more like a late, flexible racer upfront - taking some time getting used to. The Gore-Tex seems to work really well when I landed in a big puddle at the bottom of a rappel. Several other owners complained of sand getting in the mesh but their not as bad in this regard as my Vasque Breeze XCR mesh hiking boots.

awesome
I live near Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County. It gets really wet here in the winter but my feet have not gotten wet yet. I’ve submerged then in mud and ran through streams. I also use these shoes up in Tahoe in the snow. They are super easy to slide on, and I love that feature when getting my ski boots on in the parking lot.

Salomon in the Andes...
I have been a Salomon fan for years. I just got the XA Pro 3D XCR a few weeks ago. I have to say that even though they might look kind of tight when you first try them (probably because of the chassis in the back) after a couple of hours the fit like gloves. I took my shoes to their light hike in the Ecuadorian Andes, at 12,000 feet. They performed awesome. No blisters, no cold feet, awesome traction. My foot remained fixed and dry inside the shoe. A very good election.

Worth the money.
These shoes are well worth the money, the most comfortable shoes I can remember wearing. They are definitely an eye-catcher. With the Gore-Tex you can't go wrong.
